These fun, repeatable background techniques give you coordinated backgrounds every time! Inspired by Seth Apter's "Deck of Cards" process, we'll change it up by adding washi and metallic paints to complete backgrounds on 10 Artist Trading Coins and a journal spread at the same time. Please bring your art journal with a blank spread to play with, 2 coordinating colors of acrylic paint that will mix well pallet knife or old gift card, brayer, baby wipes, 2 stencils - one with large openings and one with small, more intricate designs, one or two rubber stamps for background texture, black archival ink pad, your least favorite roll of washi tape, a UHU glue stick if you have one, and black and white journaling pens. One of the best things about mixed media art is the infinite possibilities for materials you can use and techniques you can try. Let’s start by using paint, paper, stencils and stamped images to create a background. Then printed and/or stamped images to create a focal point. To finish off our mixed media page we will practice journaling and/or using text, creating a border, and outlining. Everyone in class will complete at least 1 page from start to finish, create multiple backgrounds ready to use after class, and leave with images they can use to complete future pages. This class is for beginners, people new to mixed media, and anyone who wants a refresher course on mixed media basics. Taught by Teresa.
